| This was the second time I have attended Kapow. The first time I was on the guest list and just went along to enjoy the show. So let me start out by saying this time around I really didn't get to see much of the show. I arrived 20 minutes before the opening of Kapow with the queue for the event already snaking itself around the courtyard. I swiftly found my way to my table where I was squeezed between Adi Granov and Barry Kitson so I knew there was bound to quite the crush.
I was joined for the weekend on my stall by the fantastic John-Paul Bove who was there to digitally colour any sketches requested & to keep me supplied with Jaffa Cakes.
He had a nifty little set up where he was scanning, colouring and printing out finished art pieces for fans. Of which Dark Judge Fire here is an example
From the start of the day I was sketching and didn't get the chance to stop. In fact I found this show so busy that for the first time at a convention I didn't head into the bar at the end of a long day. But back to the hotel room to continue with a backlog of sketches & sketch covers to finish.
The sunday came and went in similar fashion with my head down sketching. I actually had to turn away sketches from 1 o'clock just to make sure I could complete those already requested. Which was something I can honestly say I do not like doing. This was partly due to a rather strange closing time of 3.30pm. Which is very unusual for a convention of this sort. I literally finished my final sketch as the doors were shutting.
All in all I had a great, but busy weekend. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the people that came along to chat. Even the the cosplayers that I saw were great. The only thing I regret, is that because I was so busy, I didn't get to look around the show myself. |
