I had an early start for this years Cardiff show. I would usually drive, but this time I grabbed a Cross Country Train down to the show. Although this meant an early start, I got the chance to see parts of the country I had not seen before. That is the nice thing about doing new shows in new ways, you get to see things from new angles. It is always good to learn doing this job, which is something I hope I am continually doing. I arrived at the Show 10 minutes before opening to be greeted by the friendly staff & a long queue waiting around the block, some in cosplay as their favorite characters. Others just wanting to get something involving their favorite characters. Which is where I come in. I had a nice mix of requests this time. Especially as much of them were characters I actually love myself. Getting to draw things I enjoy is one of the best aspects of this job.
I will be at the Cardiff International Comic & Anime Expo on March the 2-3rd. That is this coming weekend to all those with calendar phobias out there. The Event is hosted in the Mercure Holland House on 24-26 Newport Road in Cardiff. The doors open Saturday Morning from 10 until 6 & 10.30 until 5 on the Sunday. These times are for Pre-booked tickets. Tickets on the day are available from 11am. These will be limited availability though, so remember to cue early! I will be Sketching all weekend, 1st come 1st serve. Remember I can only produce so much in a day! For more information about the show & everything else that will be taking place on the weekend click the website here: http://www.fantasyevents.org/cicae/ Last Sunday I had the chance to pop down to CICE. The CARDIFF INTERNATIONAL COMIC EXPO held at the MERCURE HOTEL. The show, more of a Mini-Con was a practice run for next years plannedmuch larger Two-Day Event. Unlike a lot of shows, the pace was relaxed, where I was able to slide off my kicks (literally) and interact more with the attendees and other Artists whilst sketching. The doors opened from 11.00 until 5.00. With an attendance of over 500 turning up and many a Cosplayer in tow. It was nice to have a constant crowd but without the usual pressure of a larger event. Which gave me more time to chat to everyone individually that were in attendance. It was also good to chat away with my fellow guests especially Mike Collins who was sitting beside me. I got to draw a nice mix of characters on the day, with a few unusual requests including a Tron style Captain America, which was challenging, but fun. A big thanks to Mike Alwood for the invite. & hopefully I will make it back down next year! A bit of a last minute decision for me. I will be at the CARDIFF INTERNATIONAL COMIC EXPO as a guest tomorrow. Mike Allwood kindly fitted me in, so make sure you come along and make the show a good one! I will be sketching and chatting to all and sundry. I guess I need my Convention fix! The COMIC EXPO SHOWCASE is held at the MERCURE HOTEL CARDIFF. Doors open at 10.30 a.m & Tickets are available on the door! |
